Just when we thought spring was here. I watched the snow melt across the yard with eager anticipation. I watched the gardens' brown soil warming in the bright sunlight in preparation for planting ... and then it happened. Another 8 inches of snow buried us in winter's cold, white blanket! My mountain man spent the day opening driveways with the snowplow, and I spent the day wandering from windows to door trying to figure out what happened. We expected a white Christmas ... not a white Easter. Oh well, I guess I can wait a little longer. Now if I can just keep my sons from calling up and bragging about the warm temperatures in North Carolina & Houston.
Praise ye the Lord. Praise ye the Lord from the heavens: praise him in the heights. Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.
Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. Let them praise the name of the Lord; for he commanded, and they were created. He hath also stablished them for ever and ever: he hath made a decree which shall not pass. Praise the Lord from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps; Fire, and hail; snow, and vapour; stormy wind fulfilling his word: Mountains, and all hills; fruitful trees, and all cedars: Beasts, and all cattle; creeping things, and flying fowl: Kings of the earth, and all people; princes, and all judges of the earth: Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children. Let them praise the name of the Lord: for His name alone is excellent; His glory is above the earth and heaven. Psalm 148:1-13
May the Lord bless you.

Just some thoughts while I watch the snow melt ...
It has been a week of frustration & of joy. I haven't been able to update like I wanted because we have the unfortunate luck of being unable to use DSL here at the cabin. Apparently the networking doesn't run this far up the mountain, and thus our only source of internet is to rely on dial-up through the phone company. Due to years of neglect, the phone lines in our area are seriously outdated and the system is shot. Because if this, internet usage is limited and sporadic at best. So please bear with me for awhile longer until the system gets overhauled. That's the frustrating part. Now for the joy ... We have celebrated a whole slew of birthdays lately. My Mejia turned 17, my two sons both had birthdays on the 28th of March and turned 26 & 24 respectively. (Happy Birthday Eric! Happy Birthday Matthew!) Not being able to be with them on that day left me with the 'motherly task' of walking down memory lane that whole day. God is good. He has blessed me with all of these wonderful children ... and amazingly enough, they all lived to adulthood without me killing them.
I looked back on the few 'atta-girl moments and smiled with pride. And I visited some of my regrets, still wondering how I could have done things differently. My biggest regret comes from not having the ability to homeschool the boys and spend more time with them as they grew up. And as my children grew and in my earlier career days, I have had the opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at the public school system. All I can say is, "God be with our children".
I continue to see more and more evidence across our country showing that our public education system is broken and there is little hope of it being "fixed" without stripping it completely down and rebuilding. There continues to be more and more reports of teachers (women & men) having sex, molesting, and acting inappropriately with children of all ages. A growing number of schools across the country have promoted homosexuality as a lifestyle, encouraged abortions without parental consent, and absolutely slamming the door on God by banning students from not only wearing Christian t-shirts, but from sharing Jesus with other students as well. I found a news article a little while ago that I want to share with you.
HOSTAGE DRILL AT NJ SCHOOL FEATURES MOCK 'CHRISTIAN TERRORISTS'

Granted, schools in some towns & states are a bit more 'Christian friendly' but even in the little town where I grew up ... the growing trend there is to slide God out. I realize that homeschooling isn't the answer for everyone. Private schools are extremely expensive and for the most part too exclusive. But, whether or not we have children or grandchildren in the public schools ... we need to not only be praying for our local schools, the administrators & teachers, and the children who attend but we need to be praying for the turn around in our homes. The reason God has been evicted from our schools is because we as a community never came to His defense and demanded God's place in the education of our children.
May the Lord bless you.

Sunday at the cabin
Today was a beautiful day! It warmed up to a balmy 35 degrees. The sun was so warm on the deck. I wandered outside frequently just to enjoy the sunshine & enjoy God's day.
Everyone woke up frustrated with the cares of the previous week on our minds. But after our family church service, a few necessary chores & a late breakfast we all scattered to our chosen areas to relax. Our daughter is an avid reader and curled up in her room for some much coveted book time. Our son's recreation of choice is currently movies and he was able to put the work week behind him with Ant Bully and calls to his sweety. My mountain man made a bee-line to his shop to spend the afternoon with his music. He is making such wonderful progress as he learns to play! It's fun to slip out to the shop for brief moments to listen to him practice. And I grabbed my sketch pad & paints to capture an image that has been forming in my head the past few days. With praise songs in my headphones,it seemed that the stress just flowed away as the day progressed. Praise God for Sundays!
May the Lord bless you as you enjoy His day.

Blizzard's Coming
Yesterday was spent in preparing for the coming snow storm. Depending on which weather forecast we listen to ... we should get anywhere from 1-3ft. of snow by Thursday morning. That's a lot of snow, even for the old-timers around here. All of the grocery stores were packed with folks stocking up in case they become house-bound for awhile. My mountain man checked his truck and plow equipment so he'll be ready to roll as soon as the snow gets to six inches. Then he ate an early supper and slipped off to bed. There's a good chance that he'll be working non-stop until sometime Thursday. (He enjoys his work or else this could be really miserable for all of us.)Everyone else around here will work diligently to keep the snow shoveled off the roof & sheds, and keeping the paths cleared. Everyone has a job to do when the weather turns bad. In a few hours the kitchen will be in full swing with beef stew in the crock pot, chili on the stove, and rolls in the oven for the tired & frozen workers when they wander through.
The weather often dictates the craziness around here sometimes, but after the storm passes there will be a time for rest. My mountain man will be out in the workshop with the smell of the wood stove, a mug of hot coffee, and his guitar snuggled in his lap playing praises to God. More than likely, I'll be right there with him listening and thanking God for blessing me with such a wonderful man.
May the Lord bless you.
